Plymouth Facts
Plymouth and Plymouth Township span over 18 square miles and has a combined population of approximately 37,000 residents. Plymouth is located just north of Canton and south of Northville. Featuring a charming and sprawling downtown area filled with boutique shops, locally owned as well as chain restaurants, a movie theater and community park, Plymouth is one place we love visiting on both the weekends and to help our customers throughout the week.

The residents of Plymouth have the luxury of being just 20 minutes from Ann Arbor and 30 minutes from the heart of downtown Detroit.

Plymouth History
Settlers began coming to Plymouth in the early 1800s and, by 1825, grew slowly and steadily. The first settlers to arrive settled near the corner of what is now Ann Arbor Trail and Main Street close to Kellogg Park. Plymouth had a population of just 820 back in 1860 and as the railroad tracks were put down throughout and near the village, folks began settling more frequently in Plymouth. But even 50 years later the population was still relatively small at just under 4,500 residents. In 1932, Plymouth became an incorporated city. Manufacturing increased as the industrial revolution took hold and many people who found work at the nearby factories settled in Plymouth. As you walk through the downtown area today, you can see the many historic structures which now house modern stores and eateries, and as you head out of town, you are met with many colonial style homes and smaller ranch homes built in the 1950s and 1960s to accommodate the baby boom.

Plymouth Economy
Plymouth is filled with many small businesses and locally owned and operated companies. Some of the multinational corporations that are found in Plymouth include:
•    Aisin World Corporation of America
•    Hella Corporate Center USA
•    Johnson Controls Automotive Experience
•    Metaldyne

The small shops and restaurants throughout Plymouth help drive the local economy and bring folks from all over Metro Detroit into the city.

Plymouth has also been the location of a few movies that were filmed in Michigan. Recently, two of these movies include:
•    Scream 4
•    Trust
Of course, the one-screen Penn Theatre is a staple in the community showing second-run movies as well as older classics such as Hitchcock movies, Christmas movies and nostalgic films like Back to the Future and Goonies.

Plymouth Festivals and Events
Regardless of the season, you will find that Plymouth hosts major events and festivals all throughout the year. One of the largest events in Plymouth is the Art in the Park. This highly anticipated summertime festival brings in hundreds-of-thousands of visitors from all over southeast Michigan to purchase arts and crafts from hundreds of vendors, partake in fun kid’s activities and listen to live music from the area’s most incredible bands. In December, Plymouth hosts the Festival of Trees which lines Kellogg Park with dozens of Christmas trees to help bring in the spirit of the season and then, in January, there is the ice sculpture competition. Weekly events in downtown Plymouth occur throughout the summer too and often feature concerts or movies in the park as the sun descends into a peaceful evening.
